It’s been four years since the night Cheryl Juaire spent pacing the floor, phone in hand, waiting to hear from her 23-yearold son.
Her instincts telling her what she couldn’t bring herself to believe, Juaire had to remind herself to breathe. When the call came after 10 p.m. it was from her son Bobby, a police officer. A scream left Juaire’s body that she said didn’t recognize when she learned her youngest son, Corey Merrill, was dead.
Corey was blue when they found him. Needles were nearby. He died of a heroin overdose, a drug his mom didn’t even know he was using.
