U.S. House Representatives Donna F. Edwards (D-Maryland) and Mary Bono Mack (R-California) have introduced the Stop Overdose Stat Act (S.O.S. Act).
The S.O.S. Act supports federal funding for naloxone distribution, rescue trainings and other lifesaving overdose prevention initiatives. It would direct federal health officials to work with people invested in reducing overdose fatalities and come up with a plan to stop the overdose epidemic. The S.O.S. Act would also provide funding for cutting edge research that could help with efforts to secure FDA approval for over-the-counter naloxone.
